I had been having a dialogue on Poetry and Peacebuilding with Aya Rice, a psychologist and poet from Israel. I am happy to share that our dialogue has now been published online at Transcend: Art & Peace Network.

This might as well be first such formal dialogue by two people from Israel and India, focusing on using poetry as an art for building more peace at personal level.

Below is a poem dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai on 18th November 2010. For those who are not aware of this organisation, the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) has members in 192 countries and territories and is a grassroots movement of change (jp. Ningen Kakumei) with over 12 million members. This is merely my personal dedication to the Soka Gakkai and should not be taken as an authoritative or official source of reference.

Rising
From the ordinary people,
The Soka Gakkai stands!
Formed
by the ordinary people,
The Soka Gakkai stands!

Hundreds and thousands,
Spreading like a wildfire-
Uncontrollable,
Larger than sight-
The Soka Gakkai stands!

Countless lives,
Like the vapours
Rising around snow-captured Fuji-
Their voices rising in unison,
The Soka Gakkai stands!

Having risen
From the ashes,
Like an artwork of the Universe-
Past, Present and Future
People singing high,
There are millions now,
And the voices too hard to count

History
Fought against
Injustice, Dignity and Human Rights
The Soka Gakkai stands!

Yet countless lives,
Too hard to count-
The human spirit liberates,
Life shines bright,
There are those
Embattled in the daily living
Yet there are those
Who have grown as champions

The Soka Gakkai stands,
Revealing the true power
Of the human spirit-
How many are those
Having stood by the side
Of each other,
How many are those
Having marched together,
Yet,
How many are those
Having celebrated together

The Soka Gakkai stands,
The Soka Gakkai lives,
The Soka Gakkai-
So indestructible,
So magnanimous,
It pulsates in my life.

80 years ahead,
The Soka Gakkai-
The history, conviction and togetherness
Flows out
As there are millions more
Who wait
To be awakened.
